Geronimo Legendary Warriors Series 1 Troy Ounce (oz) .999 Fine Silver Medallion (Round) -5 Piece Lot
As the sixth release in the exclusive Warriors Series this silver round features Geronimo. The first in the series is Eric Bloodaxe, the second being Julius Caesar, the third being Achilles, the fourth being Alexander The Great and the fifth being Genghis Khan. This round commemorates Geronimo, who was a prominent leader of the Bedonkohe Apache tribe, born in June 1829 in what is now modern-day Arizona. His birth name was Goyaałé, which means "one who yawns." He became one of the most renowned Native American leaders of his time, known for his resistance against Mexican and American expansion into Apache tribal lands.
In the mid-19th century, tensions between Native American tribes and European settlers escalated as settlers encroached upon Apache territory. Geronimo's tribe, the Bedonkohe, faced increasing pressure and violence from both Mexican and American forces. Geronimo himself experienced personal tragedies, including the murder of his mother, wife, and children by Mexican soldiers. In 1886, after years of pursuit, Geronimo finally surrendered to US forces. His surrender marked the end of the Apache Wars and the final resistance of the Apache tribes against American expansion. Geronimo and his band were exiled to a prisoner of war camp in Florida, and later transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After his surrender, Geronimo became something of a celebrity, appearing at fairs and exhibitions across the United States. He also became a symbol of Native American resistance and resilience, admired by both Native and non-Native people alike. He continued to live out his life as a POW and resisted and fought for the rights of his people. He later died in February 17,1909 at Fort Still, Oklahoma. He remains to this day a Warrior.
