The 1972-S Eisenhower Dollar is a specific issue of the Eisenhower Dollar series, which was minted from 1971 to 1978 to honor the 34th President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower. The "S" mint mark indicates that the coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint. The obverse (front) of the coin features a portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, while the reverse (back) depicts an eagle landing on the Moon, symbolizing the Apollo 11 moon landing. The design was created by Frank Gasparro, the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint at that time.
