You all are well-aware of the Armed Forces Silver Medal Series by now. The United States Mint has issued silver medals in 2.5 Troy ounces and 1 Troy ounce so far, honoring a different branch of our military each time. In conjunction with that series, they are now set to release a bronze medal version of each starting today at 12pm EST with the U.S. Coast Guard.
Comprised of 95% copper and 5% zinc, the U.S. Coast Guard Bronze Medal will feature an obverse depicting the Coast Guard national security cutter at full throttle as it heads toward the viewer. “U.S. COAST GUARD” and the Coast Guard motto, “SEMPER PARATUS” are seen inscribed along the upper arc of the design. The hull number on the boat, “753,” signifies the cutter Hamiliton which was named for Alexander Hamilton.
The reverse design features two iconic symbols of the Coast Guard: a life preserver ring and the Coast Guard racing stripe mark. The Coast Guard emblem is also centered in the design with the words “HONOR,” “RESPECT,” and “DEVOTION TO DUTY” inscribed into the life preserver ring. These are the Coast Guard’s core values.
Struck with a matte finish, the obverse was designed by Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Richard Masters and sculpted by U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso. The reverse was design by AIP designer Thomas Hipschen and sculpted by U.S. Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon.
The bronze medal will be available for $20 and does not have a household, mintage, or product limit.
