Part of 2021’s great success as far as the United States Mint was concerned was the release of the 2021 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar series. With a total of six products, the series was slated to make a return in 2022. However, the Mint canceled any plans to move forward with the series this year citing insufficient .999 fine silver planchets as the cause and instead, has now opened enrollment for the 2023 Morgan and Peace dollars.
With five limited edition products on the books for next year, they have revealed that production for the series will take place at both the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mint. In addition, they have limited the enrollment to three coins per product per household. With 2021 being the first year for the program, they have indeed indicated that they have plans, despite this year’s lack of product, to make the coins available annually.
The product/enrollment options include the following:
- 2023-P Morgan Dollar Uncirculated - 275,000 mintage limit - $67 retail
- 2023-P Peace Dollar Uncirculated - 275,000 mintage limit - $67 retail
- 2023-S Morgan Dollar Proof - 400,000 maximum mintage - $73 retail
- 2023-S Peace Dollar Proof - 400,000 maximum mintage - $73 retail
- 2023-S Morgan and Peace Dollar 2-Coin Set Reverse Proof - 250,000 maximum mintage - $175 retail
The 2023 products will introduce a Proof finish and a Reverse Proof finish in addition to the 2-coin set. They will not include privy marked coins nor a Denver minted option like the 2021 series. It is unclear as to when the products will be available officially next year to the masses.
