For the past few years, the United States Mint American Liberty Gold Coin Program has seen gold coins featuring modern interpretations of what American Liberty means beyond the traditional portrait of Liberty herself. These interpretations have featured different female figures but the coin to be released today will take a different approach to the meaning of American Liberty. Beginning at 12pm EST, the 2021 High Relief Gold Coin will be available for purchase with perhaps one of the most modern nods to history the Mint has ever produced as far as designs go.
Struck in .9999 fine 24-karat gold, this 2021-dated one-ounce gold coin features a wild American Mustang horse on the obverse as it’s bucking off a saddle. Featured in High Relief with a Proof finish, the unique design, according to the Mint, “evokes the throwing off the yoke of British rule during the American Revolution.” Also featured on the obverse is a rising sun just underneath the centered horse. “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2021” are inscribed around the outside of the coin. The reverse, much like the new 2021 Type 2 American Gold Eagle coins, feature an up-close take of an eagle. “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ.,” “.9999 FINE GOLD,” “$100,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” can be found inscribed below the eagle.
Produced at West Point with a $100 denomination, the coins will be limited to just 12,500 mintage-wise with a household limit of one. Featured in a black presentation box, the gold coin will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Bound to sell out quickly for its unique interpretation of American Liberty, it will retail at $2,715.00.
