2016 Burnished Silver Eagle Coins
The United States Mint has once again released the popular Burnished, Uncirculated Silver American Eagle, featuring the “W” mint mark on the reverse of the coin. The production of the coin had been cancelled in 2009 and 2010 due to high demand for the bullion version of the Silver Eagle, but it was once again made available again starting in 2011 - and now the 2016 version is available to add to your collection!
Always keep in mind, when telling the difference between a burnished silver eagle and a regular uncirculated (UNC/BU) silver eagle, the easiest way to tell the difference between the two is that the burnished version will have the "W" mint-mark on the reverse and will have a more 'frosted' appearance on coin.
These coins are produced using special burnished blanks at the West Point United States Mint facility. Like all Silver American Eagles, the 2016 Uncirculated Burnished Silver Dollars still contain one troy ounce of .999 pure silver but the year 2016 has marked the 30th Anniversary of bullion Silver Eagles, so to mark that milestone this 2016 version of the burnished Silver Eagle has edge incused lettering that says "30th ANNIVERSARY".
As always, the weight, content, denomination and purity of every Silver American Eagle is guaranteed by the United States Government. The coins feature Adolph A. Weinman's "Walking Liberty" design on the obverse, and then John Mercanti's design featuring a "Heraldic Eagle with Shield, symbolizing strength and endurance" on the reverse.
