2004 Westward Journey Nickel Proof Set

The 2004 Westward Journey Nickel Proof Set includes two unique nickel designs in addition to the traditional Jefferson Nickel design. The Peace medal Nickel Features the familiar portrait of Thomas Jefferson, designed by Felix Schlag. Displays a design based on the reverse of the Indian Peace Medal, which Lewis and Clark distributed to Native American tribes. The design, by Norman E. Nemeth, features two hands clasped in friendship beneath a crossed pipe and tomahawk, with the inscription "Louisiana Purchase 1803".

2004 Westward Journey Nickel Proof Set

The Keelboat Nickel also features the traditional Jefferson portrait by Felix Schlag. Depicts the keelboat used by the Lewis and Clark Expedition to travel the Missouri River. Designed by Al Maletsky, it shows the boat with full sail and a crew of men, with the inscription "Lewis & Clark 1803-1806". Copper-Nickel (75% copper, 25% nickel) Made with specially polished dies and planchets, proof coins have a mirror-like finish and sharp details.
