The 1955 Franklin Half Dollar is a popular coin among collectors, particularly in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Benjamin Franklin, designed by John R. Sinnock. Franklin is depicted in profile, facing right. The inscriptions include "LIBERTY" at the top, "IN GOD WE TRUST" at the bottom, and the year "1955" to the right of Franklin's image. The reverse design, also by John R. Sinnock, features the Liberty Bell in the center, with a small eagle to the right. The inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" at the top, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" above the Liberty Bell, and "HALF DOLLAR" at the bottom. The small eagle was added to comply with the Coinage Act of 1873, which mandated that half dollars, quarters, and dimes include an eagle in their design.
